<i>The First</i>. <i>The Stonebuilders</i>. An ancient and extinct species of xenobite who, according to [Lord Marlowe](https://www.suneater.wiki/books/meidua-red-company/page/hadrian-anaxander-marlowe)’s account, ruled much of the galaxy and destroyed millions of planets and races several million years ago, and whose legacy explains the relative emptiness of the universe. Not attested to in the fossil record. Of the planet [Vaiartu](https://www.suneater.wiki/books/sagittarius-arm/page/vaiartu).

This mission inadvertently led to the discovery of a [Monumental](https://www.suneater.wiki/books/the-watchers/page/the-watchers) (Watcher), whose buried remains drove the expedition to suicide and confirmed the first concrete evidence that the gods of the Cielcin were real. Contrary to prior beliefs, HAPSIS, the Contact Division of the Imperial Intelligence Office, now discovered that the Enar were real and are but one of up to *four* ancient civilizations.
