ISD Unknown (Between 17136 - 17395) - Battle of Nessus

Spoilers ahead, proceed with caution

Some time during Hadrian Marlowe's exile on Jadd (ISD 17136 - 17395), the Cielcin, led by Grand Vayadan VATI INAMNA, siege the Centaurine capital at Nessus.

Strategically, the fall of Nessus led to the loss of the provincial datanet, which limited the Sollan Empire's ability to coordinate its defense against the Cielcin. With the sudden loss of 40% of telegraph relays in the Centaurine Arm, the Legions can only telegraph via direct lines, which are too few in number to manage an effective defense across the greater galactic volume.

It was the loss at Nessus that persuaded EMPEROR WILLIAM XXIII to pardon HADRIAN MARLOWE of his crimes and request his return from exile on Jadd.

You have heard that story, heard how the Cielcin came to Nessus and set the hills ablaze. You have heard how it was that Lynch and Kartzinel organized the last defense, and how the great shipyards were burned and the city of Sananne was harvested and brought low, its men and towers threshed like grain. Some of you will have seen the footage, will have seen the great fleet commanded by the Grand Vayadan Vati Inamna, and seen the Grand Vayadan itself standing on the steps of the Magnarch’s palace as the black banners of its king snapped against the sky. You will have heard how a certain Captain Hector Oliva stood against the enemy when all was lost.

Ashes of Man, Chapter 12: Carteia

“It is getting bad out there, Dom Hadrian.” Aldia’s float-chair processed along the colonnade beneath the tiled canopy. “Serpico tells me we lost nine hundred ships in the defense. The Cielcin brought thirty-two of their worldships to bear upon the planet. I am told the world was nearly torn apart.”

“Thirty-two?” I shut my eyes, recalling then the tremors as the encircling Cielcin moons shook the planet Perfugium. The Cielcin had used the titanic mass of their vessels as weapons in themselves, tearing at the planet they besieged until the seas surged and the mountains cracked and fell.
