A sapper of the Imperial Engineering Corps from the Outer Perseus world of Herakos. Triaster rank. Survivor of the Battle of Echidna and the subsequent classified excavation. Comes from a family of former Legionnaire service members. Attended the Legion Training Academy at Zigana.

Tales 3 (Mother of Monsters) - Following the excavation of the Cielcin worldship Echidna, M. Valen touched the remains of an unknown Watcher hand inside the captured vessel. During his interrogation and brief conscription by the secret Imperial intelligence division, HAPSIS, M. Valen's body duplicated—no doubt a consequence of his interaction with the Watcher remains—and consequently died.
