Code of Conduct Policies
The Nov Belgaer Wiki is a compendium of information relating to all aspects of Christopher Ruocchio's acclaimed science fantasy series, The Sun Eater. We aim to provide a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, body, or lifestyle. As such, this Code of Conduct contains the chief rules and expectations of all members.
I. User Accounts & Permissions
    Your user account grants you access to view, edit, create, and contribute content. Permissions vary by role. For a full listing of permissions available by role, navigate to Settings > Roles.- Each account must be unique and tied to a verified email or Discord user profile. Accounts must not be shared.
 - To request a change in Role or Permissions, please submit a Role Update Form. If you have any questions, ask an Administrator.
 - New users will be automatically assigned the User role, which has view-only rights.
 - The Contributor role has permission to create, contribute to, or edit Chapters, and Pages.
 - The Editor role has permission to create, contribute to, edit, or delete Books, Chapters, and Pages.
 - The Moderator role has permission to create, contribute to, edit, or delete Shelves, Books, Chapters, and Pages. Moderators are also responsible for reviewing Policy violations.
 - The Administrator role is responsible for Site Maintenance (including site-wide updates, customization, etc.) and User Account Maintenance (including Permissions Management, Account Deletion, etc.). This role has all assignable permissions.
 
II. Content Guidelines
    All contributions must be accurate, in your own words, sourced, and attributed to the content creators.- Content must be in your own words. Copying large sections of text is prohibited.
 - Always provide citations, references, or footnotes for factual claims. In-line superscript should be used according to our Editor’s Guide.
 - Ensure that all contributions are clear, readable, and adhere to the Editor’s Guide.
 - Avoid opinions or speculation on pages not specially designated as such. The Nov Belgaer wiki follows a “book-first” policy. All contributions should default to canonical material as presented in the source novels.
 
AI & NSFW Content
- Do not use AI-generated text or art. All contributions must be human-reviewed and in your own words or your own creation.
 - The content of the Nov Belgaer wiki may not be used for AI training or automated scraping without the express permission of the Nov Belgaer Administrators and all licensees.
 - Sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate or NSFW material is strictly prohibited.
 
BE BOLD!
- Everyone is encouraged to do what they can to contribute to or improve Nov Belgaer wiki. You do not need to ask permission to make changes.
 - Encourage others to contribute, and work collaboratively.
 - Use clear Changelog comments to communicate the purpose of Page edits.
 - Question all rules. If the rules discourage you from improving or maintaining the wiki's quality, discuss changes to the rules with the wiki admins and the community in the Red Company Discord Server.*
 - If you have a suggestion for a higher level change (such as to templates or site-wide customization), please reach out to a Moderator.
 
Neutral Point of View (NPOV)
- All contributions should remain free of blatant bias and avoid personal opinions and speculation, unless clearly marked and included in a section specially designated for unofficial content.
 - Cite sources to support all claims. We are scholiasts here after all.
 
Spoilers
- Spoilers must be clearly marked according to the Editor’s Guide. On each page, all header information and content above the Spoiler Warning Box must be kept spoiler-free. Page Content below the Spoiler Warning Box may include spoilers; thus, users proceed at their own risk.
 - Pages using a templated format are typically structured with book-by-book sections. Though these sections are below the Spoiler Warning Box, please do your best to include spoiler information under the relevant header.
 - Avoid revealing plot-critical information without notice. Best practice is to give a warning.
 - The Nov Belgaer wiki only permits reference to content (books, art, etc.) approved by and publicly and officially released by Christopher Ruocchio.
 - Reference to Patreon-exclusive content, including Sneak-Peeks, Behind-the-Scenes Writing and Art Previews, Writing Reports, Chapter Samples, Polls, and Trading Card Art and Lore Pages) is prohibited, except where such material has been publicly and officially released by Christopher Ruocchio.
 - Sharing illegally obtained or pirated information is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal of the contribution and deletion of the user’s account.
 - Sharing or referencing early-access content, such as Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs), Beta Reader Copies (BRCs), Copy Editing files, Uncorrected Proofs, is strictly prohibited. Contributions relating to the final versions of the text must wait until the earliest official release date has passed before publishing.
 
Vandalism
- Deleting, altering, or maliciously inserting false or offensive content is prohibited.
 - Editors are encouraged to revert vandalism promptly and document changes.
 
Page Deletion
- Deletion of Pages, Chapters, Books, or other content not created by you is an Editor privilege. Deletion of Shelves is a privilege for Moderators and Administrators.
 - Contributors must contact a Editor, Moderator, or Administrator with the rationale for any deletion requests. The Editor, Moderator, or Administrator will review requests according to policy and community standards.
 
III. Conduct & Community Standards
Everyone is expected to maintain a respectful and collaborative environment.Harassment
- Personal attacks, intimidation, or targeting another user are prohibited.
 - Avoid derogatory comments about knowledge, writing ability, opinions, or lifestyle.
 
Discrimination
- All users are to be treated equally and fairly.
 - Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or other protected characteristics is strictly prohibited.
 - Maintain a Neutral Point of View (NPOV) at all times.
 
Civility
- Assume the best of other users when reviewing their contributions.
 - Avoid confrontational or accusatory language when correcting content.
 - Focus on collaboration. Edits should improve pages, not “win” debates.
 
If you, or someone else, are being harassed or discriminated against, or notice that a contribution contains content that does not adhere to our Codes of Conduct, or have any other concerns, please contact any Moderator. We will review the issue collectively and make a determination regarding the best course of action. All incidents directly involving a Moderator will be handled by the Administrators.
Consequences may involve, but are not limited to, being asked to immediately stop the offending behavior, review and/or removal of that user’s contributions, or deletion of the user’s account.
IV. Copyright & Fair Use
Be careful when using copyrighted material. Use it sparingly and with proper attribution. For full details on rights around content ownership, see the Licensing & Copyright page. For help on proper attribution, see the Editor’s Guide.- Best Practice is to copy only 1–2 sentences from a source; do not copy large sections.
 - Always provide credit for quotes, paraphrased text, or images.
 - Content should follow fair use principles. This means that commentary, research, education, and criticism are generally permissible if minimal portions of the source are used.
