Almost a great moth it seemed to me, but wingless, and there was something in its gaze . . . a solemnity, a sense of peace, that wounded me so deeply as the gaze of the green-eyed boy. I could sense the wisdom in that gaze, its pain and mingled dignity.
— Hadrian Marlowe, Shadows Upon Time, chapter 74
According to Lord Marlowe's account, the Hakurani are (possibly were) a species of xenobite native to regions beyong the galactic core, and who were attacked by the Cielcin sometime during their wider war on humanity.[1]
At least some of their number were enslaved by the Cielcin, but their true circumstances (and indeed, whether they exist at all) are as of yet unconfirmed. All information below should be considered speculative.
Anatomy and Physiology
Physical Attributes
Hakurani are described in Lord Marlowe's account as possessing six (possibly eight) thin limbs, which end in claws. Their bodies are described as being covered in white and scarlet fur, and featuring two black compound eyes set on the sides of the skull. Their blood is described as being clear and water-like.
Culture and Society
Due to their remoteness and scarcity in the known regions of the galaxy, nothing is known of Hakurani culture.
Language
According to Lord Marlowe's account, Hakurani speech seems to be some form of telepathy.[2]
Religion

History
Cielcin Prince Onasira boasts of his efforts raiding the Hakurani beyond the galactic core, for which he is mocked by other princes, due to their belief that their "true" war is against humankind.
Lord Marlowe allegedly encountered a Hakurani slave named Radhassa in the throne-room of Syriani Dorayaica. Desite Marlowe's infamy as the slayer of Dorayaica, he himself credits Radhassa with both Syriani's death (according to Lord Marlowe, Radhassa slew Dorayaica with his own drinking cup while his back was turned) and freeing him from his bonds. She was killed moments later by the monsterous spawn of Dorayaica and the Monumental Miudanar, though purchased precious moments for Lord Marlowe's escape with her life.[3]
