What air Padmurak had was stale and lifeless, and Vedatharad, the Great City, sprawled across snow-streaked tundra that had never known the touch of life.
— Hadrian Marlowe[1]
Padmurak is a planet and the capital of the Lothrian Commonwealth, home to a human population of approximately 1.3 billion as of the eighteenth millennium.[4] It is located in the Upper Sagittarius—on the far side of the Rasan Belt—and is a frigid, airless, and inhospitable world.[5] The planet is generally believed to have been originally settled by Extrasolarians in the late fifth or early sixth millennium. Some historians have challenged this notion, however, instead arguing that the Lothrians can trace their descent to Mericanii refugees fleeing the Foundation War, though this has never been successfully demonstrated.[2]
Notable Locations
Locations of Interest:
Domes of Vedatharad: Massive steel-and-alumglass structures enclosing districts of the Lothrian capital on Padmurak. Serve as environmental shelters, enclosing hive-ike arcologies of concrete, brutalist buildings. Each dome is constructed as a Faraday cage, isolating inhabitants from internal and external communication.
Everfrost Station: Lahe Ueanlochta in Lothrian. A remote water-harvesting facility located in Padmurak's south polar regions. A spartan, oppressive camp used for labor and punishment.
Imperial Embassy on Padmurak: A luxurious sky-spire housing Sollan diplomats atop one of Vedatharad’s highest towers.
The People's Palace: The seat of the Lothrian Grand Conclave in the capital city of Vedatharad on Padmurak. A brutalist ziggurat encased in walls of concrete and steel, surrounded by barracks, arsenals, and secret police offices. Houses the chambers where the Thirty-Four Chairs meet to discuss matters of state.
Vedatharad: The dome-enclosed, concrete capital of the Lothrian Commonwealth. Comprised of vast, hive-like towers, underground tunnels, and Faraday-shielded districts. Suffers from environmental scarcity, surveillance, and political stagnation. Brutalist architecture.
