Psellos continued. It’s one of several such tablets in the Echidna hoard, but this one is unique. It identifies worlds settled by the Firstborn . . . Neither language is Cielcin. The middle is a pictographic representation of the Firstborn’s writing system. Meaningless. But the text around the perimeter, Psellos traced it with a finger, belongs to the Vaiartu people. These marks are numbers. Coordinates.

It was an Enar tablet, and precisely like the one Prince Ugin Attavaisa had presented Syriani Dorayaica before the Aetavanni.
“You’ve found their homeworld,” I said slowly, and leaned against the plinth of the headless statues. “Your xenologists discovered a map in the Echidna hoard, didn’t they? The Cielcin Prince of Echidna had a collection of Enari artifacts. Vaiartu artifacts.”
“How can you know that?” Nicephorus mounted the first step to the orchestra, cloak swaying about it. “How can you possibly know that?”
